Researcher,

The USGenWeb Census Project lists the 1860 Fayette Co. Census in the USGenWeb Iowa Archives. A search for the name Royal Wheeler, shows him listed there.

This is the Census page of all the census listed for Iowa
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ia/census/census.htm

This confirms the name Lucy. As his age in 1860 is 63 years, a good guess would be the other children would be older and have left the home.

Iowa death records were not recorded until 1880. At this date, 1870-71, obits were not common unless the person was, let's say, famous, well known, important, as a politician.

Subject: [IOWA] Obit - Death Record

Hi,
I am in need of an obit for Royal Wheeler, who died 1870/71 (or maybe
after) in West Union, Fayette County. His daughter, Alice, also died
around 1871 (of "consumption"), but I don't know if she was married or
not. Even a death record for Royal, would help greatly.

Background info: Royal's children supposedly were: Alice, Albert,
Elvira/Alvira, John, Matilda, Horace, Elsie, Newton, Edna, Celia, Lucy
and Addison. His wife was Almena/Almina(?). I have only been able to
confirm Alice, Alvira, Newton and Edna from my great grandmother's
diary. Royal was my great grandmother's uncle (whom she doesn't call by
name - only Uncle and Aunt), and she stayed with them in 1869. I haven't
been able to pull up the 1870 Census on Ancestry.com, as it says (for
the past month) there is something wrong with their Fayette County file,
but they are "working on it.".

Thanks,
Waynne Warren
