To Saphronia: middle names VS first names.
I too have noticed the practice of giving a person a first and a middle name
and then calling the person by their middle name. Both my father's and my
mother's families were born and raised in Iowa (Tama Co. & Linn Co.)
There were three girls in my father's family. Two of them were known by
their middle names. The same is true for my mother's family. There were
three girls and two of them were known by their middle names. The third
didn't have a middle name. My father's mother was known by her middle name.
It didn't seem to be as prevalent with males.
