It appears to be a naming pattern. I'm not certain if the Germans followed
the same pattern as the Scots, but theirs was:
First son-Father's father
Second son-Father
First daughter-Mother's mother
Second daughter-Mother.

In my family, the first son was named James Alexander. The first Daughter
was named Margaret. the next two were Hugh and Agnes. This was carried on
throughout each generation and every collateral line. I really does help
when you are doing genealogy. You follow the names. Sandra
