I have often wondered why "Pete" was such a popular nickname for girls. My
grandmother was named Thelma Izetta and she was born in 1921, her father
always called her "Pete". I have seen lots of evidence that many other
people used that nickname for thier daughters. Grandma never said why he
used that name.

> I have two great aunts who were born Lillie and Willie. Those are not
nicknames, just the names they were born with. So their father called them
Pete and Bill ! I have pictures of them dressed like men, with fake
mustaches. They had two brothers named Clarence and Napoleon and I have
pictures of them dressed as women. All four were in the their late teens
when the pictures were taken.
