<Don't automatically asume you were told wrong. Often the record keeper
making out the birth certificate got sloppy. The birth certificate can also
be wrong.

Of course your legal name is whatever you choose to use.>

When my Aunt went to apply for her social security 15 years ago she had to
obtain a copy of her birth certificate and found that her first and middle
names were switched around. She had to have her name legally changed. I
don't know if it was required but I know she had trouble getting her social
security because of it.
