<< HI guys,

Last night while cruising the net I came across a web site that has a rare
map collection from the University of Georgia. The most interesting maps are
from the 1500, 1600 and early 1700's. It is fascinating to see how the world
back then saw the "New World." Many of the early maps are from Spanish
explorers who were obviously looking to see what those English guys were
doing up north.

The web address is

http://scarlett.libs.uga.edu/darchive/hargrett/maps/maps.html

I know it is a long address, but if you are all curious about the beginning
of the New World it is wonderful.

Be sure to check out the 1721 map of the Mississippi River area. There is an
area west of the Mississippi that is labeled "WANDERING INDIANS AND
MAN-EATERS"
I don't know what they thought was going on in that area, but someone was
worried about something.

Enjoy,
Carolyn

PS, Give the maps time to load. It is best if you visit the site when the
Internet is not quite so busy- they load faster. Well worth it!!!
