EVANS, WAVA LEE ROBINSON - age 73, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2003 in
the comfort of her bed at her daughter Beth's home. She was born March 17,
1930 in a small mining camp in Bell County, KY to the late Oscar Lee Robinson and
Elizabeth Davidson Robinson. She graduated from Bell County High School and
went on to St. Joseph's School of Nursing to obtain her RN degree. After
graduation, she returned to Middlesboro and worked at the old Middlesboro Hospital
until she married James Foley Evans in 1954, and began her career as wife and
mother. In 1970, she returned to her nursing career becoming School Nurse for
the Middlesboro Independent School System. She introduced the Health
Occupations Program at Middlesboro High School during her tenure with the school system.
She retired in 1985. She was a devoted Christian and lifelong member of St.
Mary's Episcopal Church. She is remembered for her lifelong servitude to the
Lord. She fed the hobo's of yesteryear, gave hospice to others before the
hospice program existed, and always opened her heart and home to those in need. She
unselfishly shared the talents God gave her and his love and shown around her
as he took her home. In 1978, Wava Lee, was preceded in death by the love of
her life, James Foley Evans, her parents, sister Barbara, brother Tommy, and
three of her dearest friends, Wootsie Schneider, Wanda Lee, Viola Siler Wagner,
also preceded her in death. Her brother, Oscar Lee Robinson, and sisters,
Carolyn Taylor, Edna Poore, and Rosemary Thorpe, survive her. She is also survived
by daughter, Beth Evans Walters and her husband, David of Jefferson City, TN,
Laura Ann Caudill and her husband, Roger of Franklin, KY, and her son, Joseph
Grant Evans and his wife, Cathy of Hazard, KY. Her eight grandchildren,
Grant, James David, Bradley, Evan, Martha, Rachael, Andrew and Alexander who will
always lovingly remember her as the "Ultimate Warrior", but most of all as
their loving Nana. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 23, 2003 at
11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church with Dr. Beth Mackey officiating.
Burial will follow the service in the Middlesboro Cemetery. The family will receive
friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Shumate Funeral Home. Shumate Funeral Home
