Fall From 19th St. Bridge Is Almost Fatal To Farmer
James Britton, a Powell Valley farmer, fell from the bridge spanning the
canal on Nineteenth street Monday night and two of his ribs were fractured.
The accident happened about 7 o'clock.
Monday night was stormy. Railings of the bridge were off the side he was
on. Street lights were out. The night was dark, and Mr. Britton stepped off
the bridge and fell in the edge water of the canal. Soon the canal was at
high tide. The waters from the hollows were coming down, Britton would have been
drowned but for two men who hearing him fall ran and rescued him. Mr.
Britton is about 30 years old.
