know the early marriage records were lost in a fire in 1958 but the
Breckinridge Co Archives has something that has been reconstructed from
other sources. Today I recieved a copy from them of a page, 213, from what
is apparently a book that has the marriage I was looking for on it. Does
anyone know what this book is and what other sources it has been
reconstructed from? All that was stated was that they have only dates for
these early marriages and that some have been reconstructed form other
sources.

Pam, I suspect that the book you are asking about is the first of five
great Breckinridge County books compiled and published by Bettie Anne Cook
and her late husband, Michael Cook, as part of the Kentucky Record Series
of several KY counties. As Professional Genealogists, they have done
exhaustive research into the court records and other sources to publish for
libraries and homes the sources needed to prove our lines and where these
records are stored to inspect ourselves. However, the one exception is the
Marriage Records. At the beginning of that section of Volume I of
Marriages 1800-1857 is the following (in part):

"These marriage records are compiled from existing copies of the first
marriage book, minister's bonds, Bible records, family and county historys
[sic], and vital statistic records.

Since the marriage books of Breckinridge County prior to 1858 were
destroyed by fire when the courthouse burned, the compilers intend them as
a guide. There is a possibility that the bride or groom lived in
surrounding counties, and where available on the records, this is shown.
Some few dates were approximated from census records when couples were
found from research to have married and lived in Breckinridge County."

Page 213 of this book contain marriages 1821-1824.

If you are interested in more about the KY Records Series published by Cook
Publications, you can visit Bettie's website at:

I have about 10 of her books and they are very good. I have known Bettie
for about 20 years through our involvement together in the Tri-State
Genealogical Society. JGW
