Judy,
Here is what I think to be true; Hardin County was formed in 1793 from
Nelson County. Nelson was formed in 1785 from Jefferson County, which
was formed from Kentucky County, VA in 1780. Hardin County is the parent
county for several counties, thus it gradually decreased in size over
time. Therefore, if your ancestors were in Hardin early and suddenly
disappear at or about the years listed you may want to check these
counties too: 1799-Ohio, 1800-Breckinridge, 1810-Grayson, 1819-Hart,
1843-LaRue hope this helps. I do have a copy of Early Hardin County,
Kentucky Census and Tax Lists 1793-1836 and show that there are several
Pierce's, Allen's, Roberts' and Johnson's if you want to give me first
names I'll try and check for you.
