Hi everyone! I'm a new member to the list. I am
working on the following Breckinridge county families.
-Charles and Mary A. (?) Allen
-John and Mahala (Miller) Holland
and their children's family:
-James Wesley and Susan Ann (Holland) Allen
Most of my groundwork was from copies I received from
my mother of the Allen family bible and I have just
started. I've been working on my father's side in
Michigan off and on over the years and I'm just
learning the differences of what's available (and what
isn't.. lol) in Kentucky. I've been wasting the last
year doing inquiries at the Department for Libraries
and Archives through the mail before I found Cyndi's
List-KY on the internet to help me get this moving.
There is no LDS center close to where I'm living right
now and that's where I'm used to doing my research.
(manually vs inquries) and two of my aunts that also
do geneology have both given up on these families and
left it to me.
Has anyone on the list who lives outside of the
Breckinridge County area joined the historical
society? Do they send newsletters and is it workable
or is it mostly for the in the area folks to go for
their meetings? I just found their website and noticed
their Archives librarians accept inquiries (research)
for a 3.00 fee. Any tips on this? I thought I would
start on their gravesite project since vital records
are so hard to find around here before 1911 and they
have on their site that they are pretty complete.
Thank you for anyone who would like to clue me in on
the best way to go about researching Breckinridge
County records.
Susan
