Those people (my father was one of them) were Government employes of the
Lock and Dam Branch of the US Army Corps of Engineers with Louisville as
their headquarters. Louisville is their headquarters still. There are retired
Ex employes in the area of all of the dams.
There is a large phone book entry for them the "employe locator is 502 582
5918 I am doubtful that this would include old employes but it might be a
place to start. departments not listed Like retirement records or personel
records is 582 6377. lockmaster dam 41 is 774 3514. He is traditionally one
of the older employes. A Generic address for him would be Lockmaster Dam 41
(McAlpine Dam) Shippingport Island Ohio River 402xx with SSAE might get a
reply.
If you live near any of the dams you could drive there and ask for retirees
and, probably, one could tell you where to find info you wanted. Likely it
would have to have a purpose other than genealogy if it was earlier than the
70 years old covered by the privacy laws but maybe not.
Since this is ARMY Civilian employes it might be covered in military records
somewhere. Possibly the US ARMY Corps of ENgineers has a web site. I would do
a search and see. They are the same people who operate Hoover dam and a huge
number of similar projects for flood control and navigation. I lived at Dam
45 as a child, fished, and had a garden, to sell produce to the boats who
locked through about l945-8
