I have a Mahala Jane Dean that was married to John Scarborough Newton.
There seems to be an awful lot of info on him and his family, but nothing
about her. With as many folks talking about the DEAN family, I thought I'd
give it a shot.
And then, with all the talk about the DeHaven family, another question pops
up. Ira DeHaven Behen was married to Grace Mae Plank. These are my great
grandparents and their daughter Grace Behen Bandy was my grandmother. I've
always wondered where the DeHaven came from in Ira's name. Does anyone know
of a connection between the BEHEN and DEHAVEN families? Friends, family or any?
I do know that the first occurrence of the Dehaven name was a fellow named
Emery Dehaven Behen, born 1839 in Indiana. It was Ira's uncle. So, Ira
could have been named after him.
