I don't live in Kentucky or I would certainly be all over this. This would
be disastrous! For pity sake, half the country may have it's roots in
Kentucky! The legislature can still protect against identity theft without such
prohibitive rules in the extreme. California does it right. Within certain
limits, they will allow you to have the info but stamped all over the birth and
death certificates in big outlined red letters are the words. "INFORMATIONAL, NOT
A VALID DOCUMENT TO ESTABLISH IDENTITY." That allows genealogists to have
access to the information while still protecting citizens from identity theft.
Tell the legislators, especially those who are leaning toward a yes vote, they
can still protect the public and not punish genealogists in the process if
they will defeat this bill and try again next year with a bill that follows
California's lead. -- Alice
