Brenda, thank you so much for checking. I should have added that in the
1840 Index, he is listed as John G. Long but when you look at the actual
image, it is definitely John L. Long (page 426), (2 males 5-10, 1 male
15-20, 1 male 30-40, 1 female under 5, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 30-40).
There is a Barny Pain next door (1 male 30-40) and 1 female 30-40). Two
households further is a Nancy Newton with 4 males under 20 (one in each
category), 1 female under 5, 1 female 10-15, and 1 female 30-40... I only
add this because the Newton name appears as a middle name for one of the
Long children. I feel the Barny Pain could be a sibling to Louisiana (Lucy
Annie)Paine Long.

On another page (441) for the 1840 census is a Wm. C. Long (one son of John
L. Long has the same name) with 2 males under 5, 1 male 5-10, 1 male 10-15,
1 male 20-30, 1 male 40-50 and 1 male 70-80, 2 females 5-10, 2 females
10-15, 1 female 30-40. [I believe this could be a brother & father to John
L. No proof as yet.

There appears to be one other John Long in the 1840 census but I cannot read
my image very well so will need to redo that one.

The marriage record is off the pension records for Mary Ann Long Phelps
[Waddle] stating they were married in Breckinridge County Kentucky and her
father was John L. Long. She was the widow of Elijah Covington Phelps of
Butler County Kentucky who was a union soldier killed in Murfreesboro TN.

Hope this helps someone. I do have the transcription of the marriage and
pension application.

Thanks so much for any checking anyone can accomplish or if this strikes a
nerve .... please contact me.

Shirley
