If I had to guess, I would say he probably went to Louisville. I found his son, Guy, in the 1910 and 1920 Louisville Census.

I also found Gabe in the 1860, 1870, and 1880 Meade County Census. In looking at these three census reports I must say it peaked my interest. I believe Gabe's name was actually Alex or Alexander Gabe Meador. Here's why I think this.

In the 1860 census he is in the household of his parents, McHenry and Mary McCans Meador, along with his siblings, John McHenry, age 7, Ada Ellen, age 5 and Nancy McCans, age 64, I assume she was Mary's mother. In the 1860 census Gabe is listed as Alex Gabe, age 9.

Now, in the 1870 Census, it gets a little strange. There are several, and I mean several people in the household. There is McHenry and his wife, Mary; Gabriel A. (this time he is listed as Gabriel A instead of Alex Gabe) age19, John Mchenry, age 17, Sallie M, age 6, Mary J., age 3. (Ada Ellen, who should have been about 15 is missing from this Census) Now for the strange part.....also in the household is Alex McCans age 17, Thomas McCans, age 15, John C.Meador, age 65(probably McHenr'y father) Domestic Servant, Ann Casey, age 30, (whom I suspect was playing footsy with John C) and her son, ALEXANDER, age 9. Now for what I find really strange....there is a Mary A. Richardson, age 25,in the household. Now, according to the Breck County Cemetery books, McHenry's wife was Mary Richardson McCans......makes you want to go hmmmm doesn't it. Maybe he married her later because according to the Breck County Marriage records he married Sarah Matilda McCans on April 02, 1849. But, in al!
l the census reports his wife is listed as Mary.
Now, for the 1880 Meade County Census......Gabriel A Meador is listed with his wife, Eda (probably should have been Ada) and his children, Alexander M., 5 years, John D., age 3 years, and Guy S. about 1 year old.

According to the slave list, John C. Meador, Mchenry Meador, Alex McCans and etc. all owned several slaves.

I still would like to know what happened to Gabe's sister, Ada Ellen.
