The earlier date may be when the application was made, the later may be the marriage date itself. Sometimes, at least in other areas I research, the ministers were kind of late sending in the marriage data. I've seen some that were returned a couple of years after the fact. I'd be reading along in the microfilm and suddenly come upon several for earlier years that were sent in by the same minister.
