In the name of God amen the sixth day of March in the Year of our Lord one
thousand seven hundred and seventy seven, I Hugh HOWELL of Shelburn Parish
in
the County of Loudoun and State of Virginia farmer being very sick and weak
in
body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be Given to God, calling into
mind
the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once
to
die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say
Principally and first of all, I Give and recommend my soul into the hands of
almighty God that Gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried
in a
decent christian burial. Imprmis(?) I will and desire that all my just Debts
which I shall owe at the time of my Decease together with my Burial charges
be
duly observed and paid. I do hereby Constitute Depute and appoint William
HOWELL, my son, and Timothy HIXON both of the same place to be my Sole
executors
of this my Last will and testament to act jointly or severally as the case
may
require; Item I give and bequeth unto Margret HOWELL, my well beloved wife,
all
my Land together with all my moveable Estate as long as She remains my Widow
or
during her natural life and in case She should marry to have what the Law
allows
a third. Item and after her Decease the Land with all the moveable Estate be
sold and jointly divided among all my Children. Andrew HOWELL, Abner HOWELL,
John HOWELL, Benjamin HOWELL, Daniel HOWELL, Ruben HOWELL, and Rachel and
Ann
HOWELL each having equal share ... all my land and estate to be ... by her
freely possessed and enjoyed and I do utterly disallow revoke and disannul
all
and Every other former testament and will Legacies and Bequest and executors
by
me any ways before named willed and bequeathed, ratifiing and confirming

At the Court held for Loudoun County May 12, 1777. This Will of Hugh HOWELL
Deceased was proved by the Affirmation of Francis HAUGUE and Cash of Timothy
HIXON witnesses ___ thereto and ordered to be Recorded. And on the motion of
William HOWELL, and Timothy HIXON Executors therein named, who takeing the
usual
Oath Certificate is granted them for obtaining a Probate thereof they giving
security Whereupon the said William and Timothy with Francis HAUGUE and
William
HIXON their Securities entered into and acknowleged Bond in the Penalty of
one
Thousand Pounds in the Condition as the law directs__
