Message Board Post:
Dear Ms. Davis,
I, too, have been researching the Meylin family of Crawford County, Indiana.
I have a good deal of information on the family, which, in my line of research, connects with the Deuchars of the same county. I have from the 1880 census indication that Hiram Meylin's father came from Pennsylvania. I also have an older John Meylin (1784-1840) who's buried in Fredonia Cemetery (Fredonia, Crawford County, Indiana), who perhaps/probably was Hiram's father, but I cannot find any reference to connect him to the Pennsylvania Meylins of York County, Pennsylvania, with whom I believe he may be connected. Also, I'm aware that a branch of those Pennsylvania Meylins settled in northern Indiana, so they, too, may be connected with the Crawford County Meylins, but I don't yet know how.
John's wife was named Sarah. I place four children in their family: Hiram B., born 1813 in Indiana; John H., born 1823/1824 in Indiana; Mary E., born before 1830 and Sarah Jane, born 1831/1832, both in Indiana.
I am also familiar with your Oscar Alonzo Meylin, but I've not worked on his line so I don't know his parents. Hiram B. and Marilda Ellen (Rice) Meylin had a son named Alonzo L., born 1847/1848 and reportedly died in a riverboat disaster between 1880 and 1886, but I've not been able to get the details of his death, although I do have Meade County, Kentucky, and Crawford County, Indiana, documents that confirm his death and the guardianship of his children. His wife was Susan S. Hardin of Meade County, Kentucky.
I live in Owensboro, Kentucky, and I would like to strike up a communication and sharing with you. My e-mail address is .
Hoping to hear from you,
Ronald Lee Logsdon
