Subject: [KYBRECKI] Breckinridge County World War I Draft Registration Cards
Date: Sun, 4 Mar 2007 16:54:26 -0500
Hi all....
There's a BIG surprise coming to the Breck. Co. GenWeb Archives site. I should have the framework pretty well built to begin submitting the info and then it will be ready... page by page... for everyone to see and search.
With the wonderful help over the past week from researchers Arlene Allen, Dave Rafferty, Peggy Russell, Donde Smith, and Betsy Carter Wildes, the records of those individuals living in/claiming birth in Breckinridge County, Kentucky for the World War I Draft Registration in 1917-1918 are being transcribed and placed on the Archives site. Dave and the ladies have been working their fingers to the bone transcribing over 3,800 cards so that all the information on them will be accessible to anyone searching for male family members. Information included on the three types of cards are, but not limited to:
Name
Address/Present county and state person resides in
Occupation/Employer
Birth date and place
Physical description
Any physical problems that would exclude them from serving in WWI
Name of nearest relative
Address of nearest relative
The six of us are extremely excited about the project and can't wait for the transcriptions to be online for you all. From what I understand in going over the many records, anyone that claimed birth in Breck. Co. would have had a card sent to their local birth county for filing... which would mean there is a card for Breck. Co. and I believe for the county in which the individual was residing it at the time. We all are having the faith that many brickwalls and missing family links will be uncovered through these records you'll be able to read. We could still use some transcribing help if anyone has the time and is interested. It is hard work, and might make you a little bonkers (or more bonkers, in the case of me), but it is well worth the time and effort. If you are interested, please feel free to email me and we'll discuss it.
When I get the page up, I'll be emailing everyone to let them know the first of the pages is going up. All letters of the alphabet are represented, with the exception of the letters "X" and "Z".
Happy Hunting!
Dana
