Hi Gail....

I wish I could answer that one for you. I honestly don't know. There are a
couple of things I thought of that might explain it, but hopefully someone
on the mailing list knows positively why the Johnson/Gosnell Farm Cemetery
is named as it is.

Some times a cemetery is named as it is due to the land it was on and the
owner's last name, or for the town/church it's located in or next to. The
other thing I can think of is that people used the surname of the first
burial within the cemetery or if a family started the cemetery/primarily is
buried there. A good example is Hensley-Dowell Cemetery. For the longest
time I thought that was the name of it, and really it is.... but I found out
that really it's the Dowell Cemetery that is located in Hensley. Apparently
there are several Dowell Cemeteries and they had to designate which one was
which to keep them all straight. Lord knows I need help in keeping all the
Breck. Co. cemeteries straight at times.

Dana
