Alice May Welch Phillips, 79
A 1944 graduate of Montpelier High School, Alice May Welch Phillips, 79, of Sebring, Fla., died at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, at Good Shepherd Hospice House, Lakeland, Fla.
Mrs. Phillips formerly lived in the Pennville area. She was a homemaker and worked on the family farm. She was a former Jay County school bus driver and delivered Meals on Wheels to senior citizens in the Jay and Blackford County areas. She was an active member of the Pleasantdale United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Phillips was born Jan. 31, 1926, in Blackford County to Otto A. and Merlie Ellen (Morris) Rogers. Her marriage on Sept. 23, 1989, in Columbia City was to Jim Phillips, who survives. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John W. Welch, who died Feb. 7, 1989.
Other survivors include three daughters, Merlie Ann Thinnes of Montpelier, Mrs. Michael (Priscilla) McFarland of Portland and Mrs. David (Vicki) Johnson of rural Dunkirk; two stepdaughters, Joni Phillips of Indianapolis and Mrs. John (Patricia) Culy of Montpelier; four sons, Larry Welch of Hardinsburg, Ky., Wesley Welch of Van Buren, John Welch of Greenville, Ohio, and Jerry Welch of Pennville; a stepson, Tim Phillips of Hartford City; four sisters, Mildred A. Jones of Hartford City, Eleanor A. Bennett of Homosassa, Fla., M. Elizabeth Hughes of Hartford City and Roberta Grimes of Muncie; a brother, Raymond H. Rogers of Hartford City; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Pleasantdale United Methodist Church.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Glancy Funeral Homes - Walker Chapel, Montpelier, and one hour prior to services Sunday at the church.
Burial will be in Twin Hill - I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Pennville.
Preferred memorials are to Good Shepherd Hospice House, Lakeland, Fla., or Gideons Bible International, Upland.
