I have an odd question. Does anyone know of a good genealogy for the
extended family of the former governor of Kentucky, Robert Letcher?
Preferably one online?
I have a "Kitty" Ellen Scott who married a Robert P. Letcher on 17
April 1856 in Hamilton Co, IN. If family birth records are correct,
Kitty had had her 16th birthday in Jan of that year. Her husband
doesn't seem to have remained on the scene long because by 1860, Kitty
and her daughter, Josephine (b. 16 Jan 1857), are living with Kitty's
parents, John M. and Margaret A. (Dowell) Scott in Perry Co, IN.
The thought occurred to me that Robert may have been a member of the
Governor's family, that the couple eloped, and then the marriage was
annulled. This is based simply on the idea that Robert appears to be a
namesake for the governor...possibly a grandnephew or even a grandson.
Is anyone familiar enough with the Letcher family to point me in a
direction to even begin to look? Thanks for any help.
