This is the same family. Samuel was born in 1872 and appears with Henry and Fanny in the 1880 census. He married Minnie Brown in Hancock County, KY on 27 June 1897. License gives his parents name as such. Samuel died before 1900 and some how Fannie got custody of Curtis the son of Sam and Minnie. Curtis had been born in Breckinridge County on 15 July 1898. I have read a letter in the possession of a great Aunt from Minnie to her sister Flora, my ancestor, that pretty well says that Fannie would not let Minnie see her son either. Minnie died on 23 November 1905 of TB. Curtis appears on the 1910 census with Fannie listed as her grandson.
