Hey all....

Looking for help from anyone interested. Come the beginning of June, there is a new project that I'm drumming up transcribers for. We're taking it nice and easy on these transcriptions, not rushing through them or pushing hard to get all of them on within a year. You'll understand here in a sec why I say that.

I've got two people so far that have volunteered, plus one working in the background on research so as to make the records as complete as possible. We're going to need volunteers to help transcribe death certificates. We have the ability to transcribe ALL the death certificates for Breckinridge County from 1911-1953. It's going to be quite an undertaking, and will take over a year to get done, but it will be such an invaluable research tool for anyone having family that is connected to, or died, in Breckinridge County.

For those not familiar with the death certs, or have scant knowledge of what's on them, here's what to expect on most. Remember, too, that the information is only as good as the person who gave it... so there may not be correct information in parts, or may be missing information. Of the information possibly available to see/obtain:

name
date of birth
place of bith
age at death
parents names (mother's maiden name)
parents place of birth
cause of death
place of burial
date of burial

Shirley Alexander Miller went through back late last year and did up templates for the certificates, as in 42 years worth of certificates, there were changes in the form formats that the doctor/family filled out. The specific template would be what information from the death certificate would be typed into... and then a copy sent to me (if the transcriber didn't want to/couldn't submit the individual record).

It will be tedious work, but an invaluable tool. My thoughts at present are to work one full year at a time, starting with 1911. I'd only pass out 10 individuals per person to be worked on. On my end, I'd not only be working on connecting them all up in the Death Certificates area, but making a link to the cemetery pages as well. For those that have no listing, or no clear listing, of burial location, I'm presently working on an idea to have "Unknown burial site" link. It would be where we could hopefully begin to identify through you guys where different ones have been interred without markers. By doing so, it will help to give as complete a cemetery listing as possible... plus help the Archives. So far to date, about 10 individuals without markers have been added to the GoodHope cemetery due to the Death Certificates. That's not including what Karen and Fay have been able to do through their work there. This is also a good way to make sure no one is forgotten... even though they have no marker to mark where they were laid to rest.

If you are interested in helping out, please let me know as soon as you can. While it's a month and a half away that I plan on starting this, it helps to make sure the tools are passed out to those wanting to help before we get started, and that we're all on the same page.

Y'all have a great one! Hope to hear from you all soon.....

Dana
