Hi gang...
It's been a long couple of weeks, but I can safely say that if anyone has anything to submit to the main site, go for it!
I had asked if everyone would hold up on submitting things as my bosses emailed that the information on the servers were being moved to a new server. I got the email this morning that I had to reupload all the ftp pages and all the html pages (basically everything connected to the website) for Breck. Co. due to some additional changes they'd done the past couple of days. Once I have everything reuploaded, then we're set to work again and receive new submissions.
Many thanks to Carolin Pettit as she sent in the transcriptions for Zion Baptist Church. It initially started out in Breck. Co. in the late 1820's, but by the early 1830's had "moved" when Hancock County was established. So while they didn't "physically" move, the county boundaries did.... causing it to go from one county to another. When I get the last of the html reloads onto my computer, I'm going to build the page for the church transcriptions and place them on the site for viewing.
On the Death Certs... there has been a tremendous outpouring of help. I'm speechless at all the ones who've emailed they will be helping. Makes me want to cry tears of happiness.
At present we have 12 volunteers. Nine will help work with the individual death certificates. The other three are doing some "sideline" work. Doug McCamish is going to work on the early DC's as they were originally listed in a ledger type binder. He does great transcription work in Excel, so he's going to work on the DC's from 1853-1904. Peggy Russell is going through the abstract books and finding the names of those who died and where. Then she's going back and checking them against the cemetery books, taking out the double listings.... creating a listing of those that more than likely have no marker and were buried where no DC listing can be found. Jeanette is going to help watch my backside after loading things onto the website, catching any mistakes I make or broken links. She's my "eagle eyes"! All this wouldn't have happened, though, without the work of one really special lady. Shirley Alexander Miller has greatly helped in getting the DC's gathered together and ready to pass out.
The nine that so far will be transcribing the individual death certificates are: Carolin Pettit, Tina, Donde Smith, Maggie Wise, Jen Ritchie, Nancy Guziec, Judy Arnold, Nancy Bender, and Shirley Alexander Miller. There is still time and plenty of certs that will be needing transcribing, so if you are interested in helping, just let me know.
By 9:00pm EDT, the Zion Baptist Church pages should be online, so keep an eye out! Y'all have a great one!
Happy Hunting!
Dana
