Another reason the marriage might not have shown on the index could be that they married late in 1850. The index starts in 1851. Marrriage in IL is highly unlikely because of distance. IN is possible.

Mary Helen Blanford was a sister to Sarah Elizabeth Blanford who married Braxton Charles Scott Gardner, Melinda's youngest child by her first husband, Branxton Charles Gardner. Braxton Charles died in 1845 before the birth of Braxton Charles Scott. BCS and Sarah Elizabeth are my gr gr grandparents.
