Residence: Stillwater, Okla.

Tribute: Doris Ann Douglas was born in Stillwater to Stephen Glenn and
Edith Irene (Harned) Douglas, the oldest of four children. She graduated
from Stillwater High School in 1948. She majored in physical education
at Oklahoma A&M, now Oklahoma State University, and was active in the
Chi Omega Sorority. She also attended the University of Colorado in
Boulder before her marriage.

On Dec. 27, 1950, she married Ernest LaVonne Hanks. In 1954, they moved
to Colorado. They had six children and divorced in 1964.

Mrs. Hanks returned to college and graduated in May 1969 from Colorado
State College, now the University of Northern Colorado, with a
bachelor's degree in physical education. She taught PE at Heath Junior
High School for nine years. While teaching, she began housing foster
children. After resigning from teaching, she opened and operated group
homes for girls and boys age 9 through high school in Weld and Larimer
counties for 21 years.

In 1981, she married John Peterson of Illinois and was widowed nine
months later. She returned to Stillwater in June 1991 to care for her
parents.

Mrs. Hanks died Saturday, May 3, at her home.

Survivors: Five children, Nancy Hunter and husband Mike of Windsor,
Shirley Russ of Milliken, Gary L. Hanks and wife Terri of La Salle,
Betty Johnson of Platteville and David J. Hanks of Brighton; her
sisters, Betty Bellis and husband Charles Mankin of Norman, Okla., and
Judy Tomlinson and husband Harvard of Duncan, Okla.; a brother, Ben C.
Douglas and wife Carol of Stillwater; 16 grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: Her son, Daniel L. Hanks, a grandchild and a
great-grandchild.

Services: Memorial services were Thursday, May 8, in Stillwater.
Celebration of Life, 6 p.m. May 29 at the Evans Moose Lodge. Friends are
invited.
