I notice your postings and have good news for you. There are two cemeteries in that area which are the final resting places of Lt William Pile and his decendants.

They are within a few miles of one another. William is buried with his second wife Nance (presumedly Lucretia's cousin--I have read that this may be her sister). Also buried there is his son Henry G. Pile and his wife Hannah Pomeroy Duncan (Pile). Within a few miles is the rest of our family including Isaiah Pile and Josie Bruce; William Henry Pile and Sadue Bruce.

I have been there many times and grew up within a hour drive. By the way, did you know Lt William Pile's other son, Edward G Pile traveled overland to California in 1846 and was with the Donner Party for a while until they had a dispute over the safest route to take. If you know that history, you will know our William took the correct route and the Donner party was stranded in a blizzard with many starving--some resorting to eating the flesh of the deceased. After reaching Sutter's Fort and learning of the Donner's being stranded on the mountain, Edward's son Edward Jr. was a member of a rescue party and helped bring down several survivors. He actually married one, Mary Ann Graves, and was the first wedding at Sutter's Fort. He was later murdered by a Mexican man who lost his saddle to Edward Jr after betting on and losing a horse race.

I have photos of all of our Pile gravesites and you are welcome to contact me on my email address at
