Subject: [KYBRECKI] July 2008 Breck. Co. KYGenWeb Archive additions/updates

Hi all....
I'm finally "back in the saddle" again and wanted to let you all know what's going on with the Breck. Co. site. After some changes from the "higher ups" within the GenWeb organization, some changes were made and have now been implemented. It's no real change for you guys, other than the web addy you have for the site will still take you to the Breck. Co. info.... it's now considered the "mirror site". It'll lag behind the actual site a day or so, but will retain all the info that goes onto the actual site. I have the "new addy" listed below just incase anyone wants to update their links. The only difference in it and the one before is that instead of being "...usgwarchives.org...." it'll be "..... usgwarchives.net....". Not too much of a difference, but enough that you might want to make the correction.
As of this past Sunday, 17 volunteers began getting info on how we'd be doing the new, "Death Certificate project". 13 transcribers began receiving images in which they will be transcribing all the information for placement on the Breck. Co. site. We are starting off with the year of 1911, and this weekend the first of the DC transcriptions will be going online and accessible. While the transcribers were busy working, I was retooling and redesigning the death certificate pages. Some time in the next few days I'll be uploading the new pages and begin submitting and linking up the transcribed records.
This is a very ambitious project with many wonderful people stepping forward to volunteer to see it accomplished. In the end, their work will make it possible for anyone researching on the Breck. Co. pages to pull up a DC, see the information listed on the certificate (some with more info than others), and then be able to click a link (if they were buried in Breck. Co.) and it take them to the respective cemetery page. On that cemetery page will possibly be a picture and tombstone transcription, as well as a possible obit/death notice for the respective individual. It generates ties and links for a LOT of information that could possibly rip down a great deal of brick walls for people... or possibly throw up some new mysteries. Nonetheless, it's all exciting!
I want to give a special thanks of gratitude to those working on the DC project. Those involved are:
Bob McManaway
Carolin Pettit
Darrel and Linda Stinson
Donde Smith
Jen Ritchie
Heather
Joseph Smith
Judy Arnold
Judy Hartsock
Nancy Bender
Nancy Guziec
Paul Sabol
Shirley Miller
Tina Zabel
Doug McCamish is working on the early death records ledgers (for which I'm VERY grateful and forever in his debt), Peggy Russell is going through abstract books to pull out death listings that may have been missed in the early death records, and "God's Little Angel" is my set of eagle eyes. With all that's coming in and going on, there's bound to be something I didn't get linked up or missed... and they are going to help keep me in check and accountable.
Hopefully I didn't neglect to mention someone helping with the project. As you all can see, it's going to be a busy time for all of us, but in the end there will be SO much out there to help out... especially for those that can't get to Breck. Co. to do onsite work. Hopefully it will also lend to the ladies at the Archives in Hardinsburg getting more calls for researching help... and help cuzzies find new cuzzies along the way.
On a personal note, thank you to YOU all for understanding why I had to take a step back for the past 6 months or so from working on the site. There's been more going on than I care to admit, but in the end I'm doing okay. As a result, I'm able to do again what I love best.... genealogy. And with that passion, I am able to return to working on the site and for you guys. I've still got a long road ahead of me in some personal areas, but with friends and understanding people like you all.... it's not going to be nearly as tough to work through!
Have a great one... and Happy Hunting.....
