Hi all.....

Wanted to email and let you all know that the first of the 1852 death listings were just placed online. The individual who transcribed those death listings worked with difficult to read handwriting AND images, but worked painstakingly hard to make sure that the surnames were as accurate as possible. Peggy Russell stepped in towards the end and helped the individual out with some of the hardest ones to decipher. The BEST possible effort was given to make sure the images, which were six pages, were thoroughly covered and as minimal amount of misspellings/mistakes as possible occurred. My deepest respect and admiration goes out to the individual who wishes to remain anonymous, and to Peggy!

For those that might not be sure if they have family listed within this particular set of information, I can relate a personal experience from it. Back in late October, early November of last year, I was perusing through the records to see if I might have any family names. An individual I had been searching for, for well over 7 years was found in the records... and for a while, I wondered if I "missed" someone in my Jared/Jarrett family lines. It turns out there was a double listing for the same individual. While this set, and future sets, will not have everyone that died in Breck. Co., it is surely an invaluable tool for those that are looking for "missing family" and what happened to them.

PLEASE, please bear in mind that these listings also include slave death listings through the 1865 death listings when the freeing of slaves commenced. The listings were intermixed within the "white" deaths, and on occasions it was extremely hard to determine if the listing was a "slave" listing, or a "white" listing. At the bottom of the HTML page are the first/given names of those individuals listed, but having no apparent surname. Also bear in mind, that while the transcriber/transcribers may not "have the spelling right" according to today's spelling standards, they went with what was written (or appeared to be written) in the ledger book. Be sure to check all known variations.

Happy Hunting!!

Dana
