To All, I have never felt that had o wave a flag to proclaim to those interested that I am patriotic. Since the 4th grade, when my teacher, Emma J. Haagens, told me that I should be patriotic, I have always assured myself that I was. However if you happen to drive up the Possum Trot Road just after the mailman has been here you will see a small American flay flying above our mail box. that is a signal that I can see from our sun porch that it is time to walk the 500 feet to pickup our mail.
The flag above the mailbox is an idea I read in about when I was in the sixth grade. The flag pole is hinged at the back of the box and a large five pointed white star is the counter weight. When the mailman opens the box, the star goes down and the flag goes up. Originally, I used a red clothe until my neighbor replaced it with a flag.
There is a 1000 gallon tank buried in our back yard. It is part of our water system. The water comes from a deep well that is way down the hill. To ssure good pressure and as part of a treatment to remove the iron in the water, we repump the water into the house. If something should happen to the well pump, and it sometimes fails, I installed a float in the tank with a pole and to assure that we notice it if the pole if it goes down I fastened a small flag to the top.
