Harve Pace, Deputy Sheriff

At Black Joe, Shot and Dangerously Wounded.

Harve Pace, Deputy Sheriff at Black Joe, was shot and dangerously wounded
by McKinley Harris last night. According to reports of the trouble. Pace was
attempting to halt a prisoner who was running away from him when Harris
opened fire on the officer with a semi automatic.
Pace was shot in the bowels and the intestines were punctured, it was
stated today and he is in serious condition. Harris was arrested and placed
in jail and the trouble will be investigated by the Grand Jury this week.
Pace is being treated at the Harlan hospital.
Harve Pace is a brother to John Pace who was killed in a duel with John
Barnett at Wilson-Berger two weeks ago. Pace also killed Barnett in the same
difficulty.
