Hi Stephanie and Roger and anyone else on the Laurel Line interested in
Lemuel Casteel & family,
I finally have a computer up and running again. Below is an article from The
Sentinel-Echo, Dec 84, Article was compiled bythe Laurel County Historical
Society Edited by Jan Sparkman: Traces of Laurel:
"Lemuel Casteel was the 8th child of John H. Casteel and Elon Metcalf.
Lemuel was b. 6/30/1820 in Laurel County., KY (area which became Laurel in
1825), d: 5/25/1902 in Laurel County, buried in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery. He
married Minerva "Johnnie" Durham on 8/29/1842 in Laurel County, Ky. They had
two children: Adaliza Jan, b: June 1843, d. 1911; she married her 1st
cousin, Felix W. Casteel. Nancy Ann, b. 1845, d. 1926. Lemuel's second
marriage was to Henrietta Moberly, b. 12/15/1834, d. 1/24/1895, buried
Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery. She was the daughter of Benagia Moberly and Nancy
Reeves.
This 2nd marriage produced 10 children: Robert N., b. 5/13/1857, d.
7/10/1927, m. (1) Siemeon Cole, (2) Josiah "Cy" Brummitt; Mary Lincoln, b.
8/29/1861, d. 4/30/1948, md. Reese Johnson; Sarah, b. 1/9/1864, d.infant;
Susan Ellen, b. 2/1/1867 d. 2/14/1932, md. Robert P.Johnson; Calista Frances,
b. 1/14/1872, d. 10/10/1929, md. Harrison L. Lodge; Lucy R., b. 4/3/1872, d.
infant; Hiram Belvin, b. 10/11/1873, d. 8/30/1949, md. Charolette F. Hodge;
Lourinda Elizabeth, b. 10/4/1877, d. 12/12/1949, md. John Campbell; Rebecca,
stillborn.
Lemuel also had 3 children out of wedlock by Annie Durham, a sister of
Minerva. They were: Lottie, who married a Tankersley; Para Lee; and
Tilford. These children grew up with the name of Durham."
Sorry this was long --- but since I have been off for a while I wanted you to
have it. I received a copy of the article from an aunt. Lottie is one of my
ancestors. Lemuel must have been something. If anyone else has more
