Mr. Tom Hale, who has been working at his water mill on Craig's Creek, has
the wheel turning which is a great accommodation to the neighborhood.

Mrs. Jennie Hale is confined to her room with a rising on her breast.

Mr. Mike Riley, of Moore's Creek, Jackson county, Ky., has purchased land and
moved into our neighborhood. We always welcome such citizens as Mr. Riley.

Mrs. Hiram Oaks, who was adjudged insane and sent to the asylum a few weeks
ago, is expected to return home soon.

LOCAL ITEMS

Mr. Ben Martin formerly of Lily, this county, but now of Crab Orchard, was in
London yesterday.

Little Florence, the beloved daughter of J. E. and Alice Blakely of London,
died Sunday, December 23, Funeral services were held on Tuesday; interment in
the cemetery at this place.

At Faris distillery, in Knox county, not far from the Laurel line, a bloody
battle took place between a man by the name of Sizemore and his two sons on
one side and Henry Barrett and W. H. Young on the other, resulting in one of
the Sizemores and Young being instantly killed and another Sizemore seriously
wounded.

This past week has been a record breaker so far as marriage license isued by
our county court clerk is concerned. Since our last issue he has issued
eleven as follows: Arch Hampton and Cynthia Lynch, W. B. Parker and Alice
Campbell, Jacob Hampton and Margaret Gill, Rance Grimes and Maggie Lewis, J.
L. Hart and Eliza Hodge, George M. Herron and Nancy A. Bustle, J. W.
Cottongim and T. E. Herron, Mavid Magee and Julia Brannon, J. T. Freeman and
Rosa Turner, John Gregory and Lizzie McVey, A. B. Nix and Alice Jones.
