RACCOON

Mr. J. W. Moberly left last week for Kansas City and we believe left some
girls with sad hearts.

Mr. J. M. Owen, of Columbus, Ind., who has been visiting relatives here,
returned to his home last week, accompanied by his nephew, Mr. Achilles Owen.

Mr. Robert Jones, of Bloomington, Ill., is home spending a few days with his
friends.

Mr. Leander Bowling returned home Saturday from an extended visit to Paris,
Ky.

Near Lebanon, Ky., last Tuesday, Martin Murphy took a bottle which he
supposed to be whiskey, and drank some of its contents, but it turned out to
be carbolic acid, and as a result there was a burying in Marion county next
day.

E. LONDON

Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Cornett were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Humphrey
Harkleroad, Sunday.

Masters Arthur and Basil Cornett have caught ten minks, two weasels, eleven
opossums, two house cats, and one finger nail in their "neck breakers"
(traps) this winter.

Miss Emma J. Crider, one of Harlan counties sweetest girls, and who has been
attending school at New Galilee, Penn., for the last two years, has just paid
her aunt, Mrs. Jane Cornett, a week's visit. Miss Emma took the early
morning train Thursday, 3rd inst., for Hagan, Virginia. From there she
crossed the Stone Mountain to her native home near Pansy, Harlan county, Ky.

LOCAL ITEMS

Mrs. L. T. Williams last Monday evening gave a reception in honor of Miss
Lucy Colson.

Mr. B. F. Metcalf, the accomplished blacksmith of our town, is visiting his
family in Erin, Tenn. He will probably remain for another week.

The only marriage license issued by our County Court Clerk during the week
was to Mr. F. F. Bowling and Miss Lottie Hopper.
