LOCAL ITEMS

Mr. Arthur Roucher, of Erin, Tenn., who has spent a considerable of his time
for the past two years in London, is visiting the family of Mr. John Elrod.
Mr. Roucher, we are glad to report, has improved very much in health since
his last visit here.

Mrs. C. H. Brown and Mrs. D. H. Vinsand, of Boreing, this county are
occupying a residence belonging to Mr. David Jackson, in Mahan addition, and
having their children with them who are in school here, while their husbands
have been left at home to batch and take care of the farms.

There are now 350 pupils in attendance at the two schools here. the
enrollment at the Sue Bennett is now 230, while that at the Baptist Seminary
is 126.

Mr. Milas Stanifer was in Richmond last week on a prospective tour, thinking
of making that town his future home; but, we are glad to announce, he was not
so favorably impressed with the Blue Grass city, though it is a good town and
possesses many advantages, as to justify him to leave our town. He says that
he prefers our schools to those in Richmond.

Mr. Charles Cummins, formerly of Rockcastle county, and brother of J. F.
Cummins, the millman of this place is now a citizen of London and
contemplates making this his future home.

Mr. H. C. Hazlewood, who recently moved from this place to Richmond, Ky., has
formed a co-partnership in law with his father in law, Mr. A. P. Settle, of
Berea, who has also recently become a citizen of Richmond. The style of the
firm will be Hazlewood & Settle. Here is success to them.

Miss Georgia Smith, of Everts, Harlan county, who has been a subscriber to
the Echo ever since she was large enough to read, is a pupil at the Sue
Bennett Memorial School. There are several other pupils from Harlan here,
including the Misses Wynn, Daughters of Mr. W. C. Wynn.
