Mr. J. B. Conway, who has been in charge of the Commonwealth Grocery Co. here
for the past three months, will soon leave us for his old home in Washington
County. His position in the store will be filled by Mr. W. B. Hardin, of
Grayson county, who arrived in London last Monday afternoon.
Robert Jones, son of Mr. Spark Jones, of Bernstadt this county, and who
recently married and lived on Woyd's Creek, has his residence and all of his
household and kitchen furniture destroyed by fire a few days ago, and he and
his wife barely escaped with their lives. They were awaken by the intense
heat of the burning building and escaped just as it fell in one minute more
and they would have suffered a fearful death.
Rev. J. A. Sawyer, pastor of the M. W. Church, South, at Dover, Ky., is
visiting relatives in London.
Mr. J. M. Hurley, who has been in business in London for nearly a year, has
contracted his stock of goods to Mr. F. A. Tuggle, of Flemingsburg. The
invoice and transfer have not yet been made, but will between this and the
first of February. We are sorry that Mr. Hurley has made up his mind to
leave our town, but hope that Mr. Tuggle will prove himself as worthy a
citizen as Mr. Hurley.
The pension of Mr. James H. Taylor, of Flat Lick, Knox county, has been
increased to $8.00 per month.
