LOCAL ITEMS

Mrs. Mollie Pitman, Dan and Hope, were guest of friends in Pittsburg Sunday.

Miss Lucy, the eight year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Russell, is ill
of typhoid.

Hon. W. R. Ramsey and Ollie Smith were guests of Dr. and Mrs. J. Givens, of
Pittsburg Sunday.

Miss Myrtle Parsley left last Sunday morning for Lexington, where she entered
the State College for the ensuing year.

The Whitley county grand jury has indicted Rolla White for the wilful murder
of James Shotwell, at Corbin, Wednesday evening of last week.

The Court of Appeals has affirmed the opinion of the Rockcastle Circuit Court
in convicting and sentencing E. K. Wilson to the penitentiary for five years
for the murder of Miss Mary Cloyd at this place nearly two years ago. Mr.
Wilson is now in the Mt. Vernon jail.

The following marriage license have been issued since our last issue: Grant
Suthard and Annie Edward, Chris Irwin and Nellie Adams, Robert Parker and
Rosa Crowder, S. F. Johnson and S. J. Jarvis, Newton Hammack and M. C.
Tacket, John C. Clark and Viva Wilson, P. H. Sutherland and Dora F. Jones,
John B. Gilbert and Mary Jane Sasser, J. A. Jackson and Barbra Hammack.

Mr. J. H. Pearl has been quite ill during the week.

Dr. A. H. Melcom has moved into the property recently vacated by Dr.
Pennington.

Mr. A. W. Huggins returned from Washington Wednesday night and is quite ill.

Capt. Joseph Garrard was in London Friday last, leaving Friday night with
quite a number of recruits for the regular army.
