NEWS NOTES
Wm. Adkins a seventeen year old boy, was sentenced to the penitentiary from
Williamsburg for 21 years for killing Sam Wilson.
While preparing breakfast Mrs. John Holtzclaw, of Preachersville, Lincoln
county, dropped dead. She as a bride of a few months.
Gen. Turner has been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the
killings during the Quarter house battle near Middlesboro.
Ed Kelly, who is alleged to have killed Bob Ford the slayer of Jesse James,
was himself shot and killed in Oklahoma City in a street fight with a
policeman.
LOCAL NEWS
Mrs. C. G. Steele is quite ill.
Aunt Mary Cruise, an old colored lady of Pittsburg, has been awarded a
pension of $8 per month.
Farris Kelley of McWhorter, after serving in the U. S. Army in the P.I. For
three years, returned home last week..
Mr. Sillas Hoskins of near McWhorter, had a fine barn, together with its
contents destroyed by fire last Monday night.
Louis Vance has established a transfer agency and will make a specialty of
hauling anything in a hurry on short notice.
Jerry Sams of Abel, who has been in the army for several years was mustered
out of service last week and returned home Saturday.
The residence of Dave Roark of Pittsburg, was burned last Friday together
with much furniture. We understand that he had some insurance on it.
Francis Jones a Clay county boy, who has been making his home in New Mexico,
for several months was here a few days this week on his way home at
Manchester.
Charles the 8 year old son of Mr. W. H. Hixon, while attempting to climb
into a wagon to ride, caught his right foot in the wheel breaking his leg in
two places once below the knee near the ankle and the other was the thigh
bone. The boy is resting very badly but is in no danger.
W. G. Jones of Buckeye, has bought from Joe Howard his store on Main street
and he and his son J.B. Jones will run it hereafter. Mr. Jones has returned
to his home but will return next week, bringing with him his daughter Miss
Hattie, Mr. Jones will make his home with Mr. W.R. Dillion.
