JANUARY 22, 1904

Alfred, the five year old son of Julius Keoliker, a German living near town,
died of croup last Monday. This makes the seventh child that this
unfortunate man has had to die only one of his eight children is now living.

Misses Eva Bales, of Rose Hill, Va: Ada and Ova Elliott, of Grays, and Effie
and Nora Elliott, of Lily; Mesdames R. M. Hindman of Wilton; D. H. Lovall,
and Ed Griffith, of Corbin; Messrs. L. F. Clark, of Jellico, Tenn; and Dr.
C. O. Taylor, of Wilton; were here to witness the McLemore and Elliott
wedding.

The following marriage license have been issued by our county clerk since
our last issue:
Solomon Gilbert to Eliza Watts, of Tuttle
W. M. Frisby to Lucy Dees, of Viva
John Hundley to Nora Moberly, of Raccoon
Thomas Forbes to Susan M. Milburn, of Livingston
S. McLemore to Anne Elliott, of London
Clarence Durham of Cruise, to Maggie Grady, of Hazelpatch

The January term of the Jackson county circuit court adjourned at McKee last
Monday. Eight persons were convicted to go to the penitentiary as follows:
Jacob Seabren, 21 years for killing Peters; Isaac Harrison, 1 year for
obtaining goods under false pretenses; George and James McKinney; 2 years
each for waylaying and shooting at I. Fox and killing his horse; James
Baker, 1 year for stealing a hog; Wm, D. Steele, 1 year for shooting from
ambush; Two men named Carter and shepherd, were sent 2 years each for
confederating and banding together; Sebren has asked for an appeal.

DIED-Mrs. A. W. Huggins, after an illness of over a year and being confined
to her bed for many months, died at her home on College Hill last Sunday
morning at four o'clock. Her funeral was preached at the M. E. Church,
South, Sunday evening at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. A. P. Jones, assisted by Rev.
Walter L. Brock, a full house of sorrowing friends attending. The remains
were laid to rest in Pine Grove Cemetery. The following were the pall
bearers: J. William Stevenson, Wm. Hardin, Oscar Weaver, Wm. Brown, Orville
Phillips and R. S. Dyche. Mrs.. Hugging was a daughter of Mr. Lee Mahan, and
was thirty years of age at the time of her death. Mrs. Huggins was of a
lovely Christian character, and loved by all. She leaves a husband, five
children and a host of friends to mourn her death.

The party at Shelby Hensley's was a success.

Lumber and stave hauling is all the go now.

Allen Hensley is in Manchester on business.

R. E. Weaver was in London Saturday on business.

Elmer Johnson was in Lily Saturday on business.

Miss Flora Minks visited Mrs. Dan Elam Monday evening.

Miss Lydia Hodge attended Sunday school here Sunday.

Ambrose Hinkle left Monday for Louisville to undergo treatment.

Robert Weaver will leave for Cincinnati soon, where he will make his future
home.

S. W. Vandeventer, James Patterson, Osborne Weaver and Jacob Patterson
visited Mr. Hinkle Wednesday evening.
