LOCAL ITEMS

Mrs. Jane Gill was very sick last week, but is better at present.

A. W. Huggins has been very ill this week and confined to his bed.

Miss Bertha Marlow was sick Monday and Tuesday and missed school.

Miss Sallie Boreing left Monday on a visit to her sister, Mrs. Julia
Williams, in Knoxville, Tenn.

Last week in the list of presents given Mr. and Mrs. McLemore we left out,
through some mistake one of the best, that was the beautiful cut glass
pitcher given them by Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Nield, of Wilson.

Born last Monday morning to the wife of Sam Day, a big boy that weighed 12
2/3 pounds.

Invitations have been sent out by Mrs. T. G. Moren to a linen shower to be
at her home on February 15 in honor of Miss Julia Williiams.

Master William the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fern Moren, was quite sick last week
with croup, but we are glad to learn he is much better.

Rev. Welcom Mullins of Cruise, was in town Tuesday displaying some fine
quartz of gold, silver and other metals that were dug from Big Hill. Bro.
Mullins says that he traced this vein 40 miles through Rockcastle and
Jackson counties.

Mr. W. G. Begley who died quite suddenly from a stroke of paralysis at his
home near East Bernstadt on the 8th, inst. Was a good and respected citizen
and liked by all that knew him. He was for some time a Justice of the Peace
in this county. He had many friends and all sympathize with his bereaved
family. He was a Mason and was buried in honors by that organization.

W. H. Steele has been very sick at the home of his father at Bald Rock, but
is now much better.

On the 15th of next month it will be more definitely known whether or not we
will have electric lights in our town. On that day bids will be received for
the franchise. The lights are to cost $52.20 per year and the plant is to be
completed by Aug. 1 The franchise will be for 10 years.

The following marriage license have been issued by our County Clerk since
our last issue:
