FEBRUARY 5, 1904
FARISTON
Rev. Stamper preached at Old Union Sunday.
LILY
Mrs. M. W. Johnson returned home Saturday from Fariston, where she has been
at the bedside of her sick mother.
Logan Storm and Alex Hood, who is attending school at London, passed through
our midst Saturday on their way home at Keavy.
PITTSBURG
Mesdames George Pitman and Jackson Givins have been visiting in Knoxville,
LaFollette and Middlesboro. Mrs. Pitman returned last Monday and Mrs. Givins
is expected Saturday.
Mr. Joe Hayslett has been quite sick for several days.
D.W. Rowark has gone to Fore Mile, having accepted a position as mine
foreman for the Black Bear Coal Co.
James Warren has been sick for quite awhile.
Wesley Upchurch is very low with heart trouble, and is not expected to
recover.
M. F. Onkst has been very sick, caused from vaccination but is better now.
Perry Cole is erecting a nice residence in Pittsburg, which he expects to
have completed soon.
D. W. Casteele of Weaver, stopped over night with ye scribe on 22nd ult., en
route to London.
Old uncle Tom Duffy, of Altamont died Tuesday Jan. 26. Uncle Tom was mail
carrier at Altamont at the time of his death, and had been for several
years. He was liked by all who knew him. He leaves a devoted wife and a host
of friends to mourn his death, for whom we are in deep sympathy in their sad
bereavement.
Old uncle Calvine Guess, about 75 to 100 years old , died of extreme old age
on Sugar Camp last night.
PEOPLES
Miss Maggie McCowan, is attending school at Oak Grove.
B. L. Wyatt attended the Masonic lodge at McWhorter last Saturday.
