West, John R.-Born February 17, 1864, died February 25, 1949, at the age of
85 years and 8 days. He professed a hope in Christ about 35 years ago,
joined the Grave Hill Church, lived faithful until death. He was married to
Almeda Pennington. To this union were born 3 sons and 7 daughters. His
wife and one daughter preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing
a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, also a host of friends. We
believe our loss is his gain eternal in heaven.

Newport, Ezekiel-Born May 6, 1866, died Nov. 18, 1948 at the age of 82
years, 6 months, 12 days. He was married to Tennessee Jeffers December 23,
1886. To this union were born 7 children, 5 girls and 2 boys, 6 of whom are
living. Fletcher Newport, Fred Newport, Flora Reed, Pearl Reed and Louvania
Hawthorne, all of New River, Tenn., and Grace Phillips of Helenwood, Tenn.
He has 22 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one brother, Mart
Newport, Norma, Tenn., one sister Louvania Jeffers, New River, Tenn. He
joined the Baptist Church the first Sunday in October 1886, and was ordained
a deacon the third Saturday in August 1894. The funeral was conducted by
Rev. L. Maynard Jeffers and Rev. Roy Blevins. Minton Sharp of LaFollette in
charge. Helenwood Church.

Blevins, Mrs. Katie-Born Sept. 11, 1872, died May 29, 1949, daughter of J.
W. Slaven, professed a hope in Christ at the age of 23, joined the New Zion
Church, then moved to White Pine Church, she lived a faithful member until
death. She was married to Mr. W. M. Blevins, December 3, 1916, she left a
husband, one adopted daughter, Mrs. Robert Ellis, one sister, two brothers,
and a host of friends and relatives to mourn her loss.

Lay, Finley-Born Jan. 14, 1858, deceased this life May 26, 1948, at the age
of 90 years, four months and 12 days. He joined the New Salem Church about
46 years ago, being baptized by Rev. A. J. Chambers. He lived a loyal
member and devoted Christian all these years. He leave 9 children, 55
grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren and
a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his absence. We feel he has
reunited with his companion and our mother who passed away some 12 years
ago. We feel assured that our loss is his eternal gain in glory.

Taylor, John D.-Was born December 6, 1875, age 74 years, 5 months, 6 days
old, died May 12, 1949, he was married to Arissie Owens in the year of 1900.
To this union were born 11 children. Companion and 4 children have gone on
before. He leaves 4 daughters and 3 sons, 30 grandchildren, 5 great
grandchildren, 2 sisters and 1 brother. He joined the church in 1894 and
was deacon of New Light Church until the Lord called him home. He leaves a
host of relatives and friends to mourn his absence. We feel our loss is his
eternal gain in Glory.

Jeffers, Dewey-Was born August 13, 1873, departed this life December 7,
1948, age 75 years, 3 months and 24 days. He joined the Paint Rock Baptist
Church, and was baptized May 10, 1910, he was an Ordained Deacon of this
church and lived a Christian until death. He was married to Nancy Ann
Sexton, November 11, 1892, who passed from this life April 3, 1919, to this
union were born 9 children, 4 of which preceded him in death, at infancy, 1
died at the age of 30 years, 4 still living, 3 boys and 1 girl. He later
was married to Missouri Sexton, to this union there were no children. She
also preceded him in death, she passed from this life, January 6, 1934, he
leaves to mourn his passing a host of friends and relatives. He said before
he passed away that there was nothing between him and God, and we are
looking forward to meeting him in glory.
