Daugherty, Emby Arlin, Was born in Pine Knot, Kentucky on April 1, 1894 and
departed this life on January 26, 1957 at the age of 62 years, 9 months and
25 days. Survivors: his wife, Mattie Daugherty of Oneida; 2 sons, three
daughters, 8 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He
professed faith in Christ sometime in early life and remained a faithful
member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Oneida, Tenn., until his death.
Brother Daugherty was one of the most faithful members of the Bethlehem
Church and since his passing we have greatly missed him.
Clark, Ralph-Was born at Robbins, Tennessee on May 15, 1929 and departed
this life on November 20, 1959 at the age of 30 years, 6 months and 5 days.
Survivors: his wife, Lois Clark of Oneida, Tennessee; 3 sons and one
daughter. His father and mother, Mrs. and Mrs. As Clark of Robbins,
Tennessee; 3 brothers and 4 sisters and a host of other relatives and
friends. He professed faith in Christ and joined the Bethlehem Baptist
Church in Oneida, Tennessee as a candidate for baptism on October 4th, 1959,
but did not live to be baptized, but we feel that he has entered into the
glorious rest that awaits the redeemed of the Lord.
King, James Bailey-Passed away April 18, 1960, at the age of 67 years, one
month, and 21 days. He was born in Scott County, Tenn. on Feb. 27, 1893.
He professed faith in Christ and joined the First Baptist Church in Oneida,
Tenn. in June, 1928, later he moved his membership to the Bethlehem Baptist
Church in Oneida, Tenn. where he remained a faithful member until death.
Survivors: his wife, Mrs. Sallie King, of Oneida, Tenn.; 3 sons, John Henry
King, of Oneida, Tenn., James King of Knoxville, Tenn., Arthur Vester King,
of Melford, Ohio. 2 daughters, Mrs. Claudine Fannin, Louisville, Ky., Mrs.
Gladys Terry of Oliver Springs, Tenn., 10 grandchildren, and 5 great
grandchildren, 2 step daughters, Mrs. Maxine Jones, and Mrs. Louise Miller,
of Oneida, Tenn., 1 brother, 7 sisters and a host of other relatives who
will greatly miss him, but we feel that our loss is his eternal gain in
glory.
King, Charles David-Was born June 28, 1945, and deceased this life June 8,
1960, at the age of 14 years, 11 months and 10 days. He is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Marshall King. Besides his parents, he leaves a sister, Marsha
Lynn; a grandmother, Mrs. Foster King; a grandfather, Rev. J. W. Blevins,
and a great host of other relatives and friends. David was saved in the
Bethlehem Baptist Church and a gave a wonderful testimony of the New Hope
that had come into his life. He joined the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in
September, 1958 and remained a faithful member until death. He was one of
the finest, most upright boys in our community. His life expressed the
highest ideals in character, honesty, and truthfulness. His loyalty to his
school, his classmates and the right, is to be admired. We do not know why
we could not keep David, but God knows and He does all things well. He had
a far more beautiful and more lovely place for David and He called him home
to forever be with Him. May we look forward to the time when we again shall
see David in all the beauty of Heaven where Jesus is the Light, and perhaps
sing with him his favorite song. "My God How Great Thou Art." "Blessed are
the dead which die in the Lord."
Hull, Charlie M.-Was born February 20, 1893, departed this life December 22,
1959, age 66 years, 10 months and 2 days. He was united in marriage to
Stella Lackey, November 20, 1921. To this union were born 6 children. He
leaves to mourn his passing his companion, 2 sons and 4 daughters, Clifford
and Lawrence Hull of Armathwaite, Mrs. Oma Garrett and Mrs. Reba Burke of
Armathwaite, Mrs. Laura Clark of Owensboro, Ky., and Mrs. Nora Russelburg of
Chicago, Ill., also 10 grandchildren and a number of relatives and friends.
He professed a hope in Christ and joined the Honey Creek Baptist Church
August, 1934. He was ordained as Deacon July, 1937. His life has meant
much to the Church. He was one nearly always present and was an inspiration
to those who knew him. He will be sadly missed by his family, his church,
and his friends. But in our sadness, we feel our loss is his eternal gain
in Heaven.
Waters, Millard-Was born August 17, 1911, deceased this life February 26,
1960. He was the son of Pete and Elizabeth Waters. He joined the Ross
Grove Church in 1952 and devoted member until death. He was united in
marriage to Mae Spradlin, April 7, 1933 and to this union were born thirteen
children. Three of which preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his
passing his wife, Mae Waters, five sons, Everet Waters, Strunk, Ky., Leon
Waters, Muncie, Ind., Millard Jr., Guy Edward and Roger Dale Waters, Strunk,
Ky.; five daughters, Mrs. Elsie Jones, Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Betty Lou
Dolen, Muncie, Indiana, Stella Mae, Edna Lee and Joyce Ann Waters, Strunk,
Ky.; 3 brothers, Harlan, Pat, and Hugar Waters, Revelo, Ky.; five sisters,
Mrs. Flossie Spradlin, Mrs. Alpha Gregory, Mrs. Retha Vaughn and Martha
Waters, all of Revelo, Ky., Mrs. Zora Whitehead of Stearns, Ky. Three
grandchildren and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn his passing. We
feel our loss is his eternal gain in glory.
Sexton, George Harrison-Was born February 26, 1900, departed this life
October 23, 1959 at the age of 59 years, 7 months, 26 days. He professed a
hope in Christ and joined the Byrges Creek Baptist Church August, 1935 and
lived a faithful Christian life. He was ordained as deacon September, 1945
and was Supt. of Byrges Creek Baptist Sunday School, also adult Sunday
School teacher and was Clerk and Treasurer of Byrges Creek Church for some
time. He was secretary and treasurer of Brotherhood Lodge 718 for a number
of years. He was so faithful and loyal in all his work. He leaves to mourn
his absence his wife: Vertie Mae Lloyd Sexton; two daughters, Mrs. Natomia
Crowley, Ivona Sexton, both of Huntsville, Tenn.; six sons, Chester D.
Sexton of Oneida, Tenn., Lester Ray Sexton of California, Thurman D. Sexton,
Middletown, Ohio, Georgie Lee Sexton. [2 sons have been omitted: Clovis
Eldon and Arvil June.] Byrges Creek Baptist Church.
Sewell, Newton Dillard-Son of Stephen and Lydia Sewell, was born June
5,1887-departed this life Aug. 19, 1960-age 73 years, two months, 15 days.
He was united in marriage to Ada Tompkins, June 4, 1911, having lived
together 49 years. To this union were born six children, one of whom having
preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his departure his faithful
companion, five daughters, Mrs. George Long of Oak Ridge, Mrs. Charlie
Turner of Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. Herland Dalton, of Clarkrange, Mrs.
Harley Robbins Jr. of Madison, and Mrs. Odell Copeland of Jamestown; 16
grandchildren besides a host of other relatives and friends. He professed a
hope in Christ at an early age and united with the Mt. Helen Baptist Church
by experience and baptism. After he moved to Armathwaite to live he moved
his membership by letter to the Fellowship Baptist Church April 4, 1934,
where he remained a faithful member until death.
Lawhorn, Mary Jane-Was born January 20, 1868 in Russell County, Ky.
Departed this life May 8, 1960. Age 92 years, 3 months and 18 days. She
was united in marriage to John Calvin Tompkins who preceded her in death 35
years ago. To this union was born six children, four boys and two girls:
Willie of Armathwaite, Harrison of Rugby, Mrs. Ada Sewell of Armathwaite,
Dewey of Armathwaite; Andrew and Betty Florence having preceded her in
death. Other relatives left to mourn her absence are one brother, Ray
Lawhorn, one sister, Mrs. Della Farris, both of Sparta, Tenn.; 18
grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren and a
host of other relatives and friends. She professed a hope in Christ early
in life, joined the Fellowship Baptist Church in August, 1907 where she
remained a member until her death. She often prayed for her grandchildren
that they would all be saved and requested that all meet her in that
beautiful place to which she was going. One from us is gone. A voice we lo
ved is stilled. A place is vacant in our home. Which never can be filled.
The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh, blessed be the name of the Lord.
