Wilson, Murry R.-Was born October 12, 1890 departed this life August 10,
1959. He was 68 years, 7 months and 28 days old. He was the son of Ben and
Polly Wilson. He joined the Baptist Church 34 years ago. He was a faithful
member until God called him home. His hearts desire was to see his family
live for the Lord. He had many friends who were grieved to learn of his
passing. He was the father of 11 children. He leaves to mourn his passing,
a wife, Mertie Wilson; 5 sons, Lloyd, Mitchel, Merril Denny, all of Strunk,
Ky., Mervin of Sidney, Ohio, Merton of Somerset, Ky.; 4 daughters, Mrs. Wilt
Troxel, Massie, Milicia, all of Strunk, Ky., Cordella Foster, Oneida, Tenn.
and a host of friends and relatives and grandchildren. We feel our loss is
his eternal gain in glory.
Wilson, Josh-Son of Mary and Calvin Wilson, born December 5, 1897, deceased
this life September 27, 1960. He was 62 years, 7 months and 22 days of age.
He confessed a hope July 13, 1958 and joined the Baptist Church at Mt.
Pleasant. He was very devoted to his promise until the end. He is survived
by 5 sisters and 2 brothers, Mrs. Rant Lovett Robbins, Tenn., Mrs. Edd
Manning, Revelo, Ky., Mrs. Clifton Bell, Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Dowie Ross,
Revelo, Ky., Mrs. John Daugherty, Letherwood, Ky., Alex Wilson, Strunk, Ky.,
and Robert Wilson, Revelo, Ky., also a host of nieces and nephews and
friends to mourn his absence. We feel that our loss is his eternal gain in
Glory.
King, Rufus-Born July 13, 1872, deceased March 22, 1950, being 77 years, 8
months and 9 days old. He was born at Strunk, Ky., then a part of Whitley
Co., Ky. He joined the Mt. Pleasant United Baptist Church in his early
youth. He remained a member there until he moved to Pine Knot and united
with the Pine Knot United Baptist Church. He has been a Deacon of the
Church since 1911. In 1890 he was united in marriage to Amanda Murphy, who
preceded him in death in 1943. To this union was born 8 children, Mrs. Cora
Wilson and Mrs. Kizzie Lay, both deceased. Remaining to mourn his absence
are: Lawrence King and Alonzo King of Miami, Florida, George King of
California, Paul King and Samantha Cordell of Rockwood, Tenn., Mrs. Lora
Vickery of Pine Knot, Ky., 50 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; 2
brothers, Golman King and Ebb King of Pine Knot, Ky.; 3 sisters, Nellie Ross
of Pine Knot, Ky., Sarah Murphy and Elizabeth Daugherty. Growing up on the
South Fork River without any school, he understood the handicaps of people
without an education. He founded a school at Hulan Branch. He learned
himself how to read and write after he was 30 years old. He was a school
trustee for 35 years, being chairman for 10 years. He will be sadly missed
by all the people in the south end of McCreary County. We know his
suffering is over and that today he is rejoicing in Heaven with those who
have gone on before.
West, Sylvester Calvin-70, passed away suddenly Tuesday morning in Oneida,
October 13, 1959. Survivors: wife, Addie Foster West; 1 daughter, Mrs. Omer
Foster; 2 sons, Olson and Loyd West, all of Oneida; 2 brothers, Elmer of
Elgin, Johnathon, Oneida; 6 sisters, Mrs. George Foster, Mrs. Monroe
Blevins, Mrs. Dewitt Foster, Rotela West and Jane West, all of Oneida, Mrs.
Claborn Parton, Wilburn, Oregon; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted from the home at 10 a.m. Thursday with Rev.
James E. Marcum and George Porter officiating. Interment in West Family
Cemetery.
Posey, Eliza-Born November 5, 1880, deceased this life January 9, 1960 at
the age of 79 years, 2 months and 4 days. She was married to Ferrel H.
Posey, who preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her absence three
sons and four daughters, Amos of West Columbia, S.C., Ben of Caryville and
Kermit of Huntsville, Mrs. Nora Phillips, of Lake City, Mrs. Gertrude
Bridges of Oneida, Mrs. Ollie Babb of Oneida and Mrs. Opal Chitwood, of
Huntsville; 1 brother, Lem Botts of Woodbine, Ky. Twenty-four grandchildren
and a host of relatives and friends. She professed a hope in Christ and
joined the Mt. Zion Church at an early age. We believe our loss is her
eternal gain in glory.
Chambers, Kizzie-Was born in 1895. She joined the Union Church at the age
of 14 years and lived a devoted Christian life in 1949 she moved her letter
to Jakes Branch Baptist Church as a charter member. She married John
Chambers and to this union were born seven children, one preceded her in
death. She leaves to mourn her absence 4 sons, Joe of Pioneer, Tenn., J.
Odus of Caryville, Tenn., Paul and James of LaFollette, Tenn.; two
daughters, Emma Muse of LaFollette, and Nella Burress of Helenwood, Tenn.,
and a host of friends and relatives to mourn her passing. Her body was full
of pain here, but we feel that is all over. We miss her presence in our
church, and feel our loss is her gain in glory.
Epperson, Mrs. Ellen Thraser-Born November 18, 1887, deceased this life
December 2, 1959 age 72 years, 14 days. She was married to Dave Epperson
March 7, 1907. To this union were born no children. She is survived by one
brother, Mr. Dave Thrasher, of Colera, Oklahoma. She joined the Black Creek
Baptist Church and has remained faithful until her death. She leaves many
relatives and friends to mourn her passing. We believe our loss is heavens
eternal gain.
Lackey, Mitchel-Was born in Scott County on October 6th, 1882, departed this
life June 29, 1960. He was married to Robie Ellis and to this union were
born 7 children, his wife, one son and two daughters, having preceded him in
death. Surviving him are 2 sons, Silas of Syracuse, N.Y., Milford of
Charlotte, North Carolina; 2 daughters, Mountie Moffette of Ohio; Addie
Davis, of Robbins; 1 brother, Riby Lackey, of Robbins; 1 sister, Louise
Blevins of Robbins, 18 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a host of
other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. He professed a faith in
Christ and joined the Beach [?] Creek Baptist Church where he remained a
member until death. We feel our loss is his eternal gain in glory.
