Byrd, Henry-Born August 7, 1883, died September 20, 1960 at the age of 77
years, 1 month, 13 days. He joined the Annadel Baptist Church in 1926 by
letter and remained until death. He leaves a host of friends and relatives.
We hope our loss is his eternal gain.
Hull, Elmer Clarence-Born February 8, 1893, died November 8, 1959, age 66
years, 9 months. He was married to Myrtle Tompkins June 6, 1915. To this
union 8 children were born. One son died in infancy. He is survived by his
wife and 4 daughters, Gladys Ellis, Armathwaite, Tenn., Hilma Schwartzen,
Doris Grimes and Lois Sears, all of Dayton, Ohio; 3 sons, Ralph Hull,
Armathwaite, Tenn., Wallace Hull, Nashville, Tenn., and Leland Hull of
Dayton, Ohio. Also one brother, Roy Hull, Nashville, Tenn.; 6 sisters, Mrs.
Margaret Buck, Mrs. Artie Voiles, Mrs. Audie Voiles and Mrs. Floy Cross of
Armathwaite, Tenn., Mrs. Carrie Bow, Indiantown, Fla., Mrs. Maudie Tompkins,
Dayton, Ohio. 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and many relatives
and friends. He professed a Faith in Christ and joined the Fellowship
Baptist Church, July 5, 1914 where he remained a member. His health had
been very bad for a number of years and kept him from taking an active part
in church. His last words were to his family to not be afraid, or worry
about him, for he was ready to go and he knew his time had come to go. He
was loved by all his family and they did what they could for his comfort
during his illness. He will be sadly missed by his family and loved ones.
Pennington, Glen A.-Departed this life March 18, 1959. He was the son of
Rev. James M. and Ella (Cross) Pennington. He joined the New Salem Church
in December, 1936 and was baptized in May, 1937. He leaves a father,
stepmother, 3 sisters, one brother, wife and daughter to mourn his passing.
We feel our loss is his eternal gain in glory. He lived a faithful life in
Christ 22 years.
Buttram, Nannie Sexton-81, passed away Saturday evening at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Dewey Byrd, in Oneida, following an extended illness. She
was the wife of the late James Buttram, a member of the Baptist Church, and
had many friends. Survivors: 6 sons, Marion, Fred and Archie, Oneida, Kelly
and Louie, Clinchmore, Tenn., James, Cincinnati; 4 daughters, Mrs. Dewey
Byrd, and Mrs. Oscar Barnes, Oneida, Mrs. A. V. Strunk, Huntsville; Mrs.
Arvil Cotton, Helenwood; 2 sisters, Mrs. Martha Ann Jeffers, Helenwood, Mrs.
Arlena Phillips, Sparta, Tenn. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren,
great great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the Charity
Church of God Monday at 10 a.m. with Rev. M. L. Woods and Rev. A. Z. Long
officiating. Interment in the Pumpkin Hollow Cemetery. West in charge.
Charity Baptist Church.
Newport, William Frazier-Born March 20, 1884, age 75 years, 8 months and 19
days. Deceased this life December 8, 1959. He was married to Bettie Dyer
and to this union were born eleven children, four boys and seven girls.
Three preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his absence his wife, Betty
Dyer Newport, two sons, Archie Newport, Winona, Tenn., Defoe Newport,
Dayton, Ohio, six daughters, Hazel Dockery, Athens, Tennessee, Mae Woodward,
Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Mildred Reed, Naomi Jeffers, Alma Sexton, Huntsville
and Elva Wright, Jr., Dayton, Ohio; one brother, U.S. Newport, Corona,
Calif. and a host of friends and relatives. He professed a hope in Christ
and joined the Winona Baptist Church and lived a devoted Christian life
until death. He was deacon and clerk of the Winona Baptist Church for a
number of years. Funeral services were conducted from the Winona Baptist
Church at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 1959, with Rev. L.M. Jeffers
officiating. Burial in Newport Cemetery. We feel our loss is his eternal
gain in glory.
Jeffers, Columbus-Born January 19, 1906, deceased this life March 14, 1960
at the age of 54 years, 1 month, 23 days old. He leaves his wife, Belle
Jeffers, and one son, Adrion Jeffers and four daughters, Othla Honeycutt,
May Harness, Emma Sexton and Opal Honeycutt. He professed a hope in Christ
Jesus and joined the Annadel Baptist Church in 1926. We feel our loss his
eternal gain.
Rosser, Kenia Forbis-82, passed away at 11:55 p.m. Friday evening at her
residence near Oneida. She was a member of the Baptist Church, a life-long
resident of Scott County and had a host of friends. Survivors: husband A.M.
Rosser; 4 daughters, Mrs. Roscoe Kidd, Mrs. Bill Price, Mrs. Tobe Phillips,
and Miss Madge Rosser, all of Oneida; 3 sons, Dorsey, Huntsville, Devoe and
Archie, Oneida, 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services
were conducted from the Bethlehem Baptist Church Sunday at 2 p.m. with Rev.
Roy Blevins officiating. Interment followed in the Forbis Cemetery. Pall
bearers: Roy Johnson, Arnold Colditz, Herbert Jeffers, Kirby Phillips, Bill
Phillips, and Bernard Chitwood, West in charge.
Smith, Carl E.-Was born in Scott County, Tennessee on January 27, 1892,
departed this life Feb. 4, 1960 at the age of 68 years, and 7 days.
Survivors: his wife, 1 son, 2 daughters, 4 sisters, 7 brothers, 5
grandchildren. He professed faith in Christ and joined the Bethlehem
Baptist Church in Oneida, Tennessee on August 16, 1936, where he remained a
member until death. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from
henceforth; Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours;
and their works do follow them.
Smith, Martha Ann-Wife of Isaac Smith, was born in Scott County, Tennessee
on September 26, 1883, and departed this life January 31, 1960, at the age
of 76 years, 4 months, and 5 days. Survivors: Her husband, Isaac Smith of
Oneida, Tennessee. One son and four daughters. Fifteen grandchildren and
12 great grandchildren. One brother and two sisters and a host of other
relatives and friends. She professed faith in Christ and joined the
Bethlehem Baptist Church, in Oneida, Tennessee on October 24, 1926 where she
remained a member until death. "Blessed are the dead which die in the
Lord."
Wright, Mandy-Wife of Will Wright was born in Scott County, Tennessee on
December 3, 1884 and departed this life December 31, 1959 at the age of 75
years, and 28 days. Survivors: her husband Will Wright of Oneida,
Tennessee; three sons, one daughter, three step-sons and two step daughters;
One brother and three sisters, 21 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren,
and a host of other relatives and friends. She professed faith in Christ
and joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Oneida, Tennessee on October 13,
1956 where she remained a faithful member until death. We feel that our
loss is her eternal gain in glory
