Sexton, Viola-Born January 1, 1920, deceased this life June 2, 1964
at the age of 44 years, 4 months and 1 day. She was married to Clyde Sexton
January 1944 and to this union was born 6 children. She leaves to mourn her
passing, her husband, one son, Keith; 5 daughters, Mrs. Judy Massey, Marilyn
Kay, Gail and Kathy all of Oneida and Mrs. Jackie Waters of Fairmont,
California; mother, Mrs. Nora Cantrell; 4 sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Putman, Mrs.
Evelyn Hall and Mrs. Tense Cuzzone all of San Diego, California and Mrs.
Leola Munzo of Arizona; and a host of other relatives and friends. She
professed a hope in Christ and joined the Pentecost Baptist Church where she
remained a member until the end. We feel our loss is heaven's gain.
Freytag, George W.-Born June 26, 1874, deceased this life August 1,
1964, at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 6 days. He was married to Lou
Jennings, December 27, 1903 and to this union was born 8 children, 5 boys
and 3 girls. 1 daughter, Ida May, preceded him in death. He professed a
hope in Christ and joined the Pentecost Baptist Church October 19, 1930,
where he remained a member until his death. He leaves to mourn his passing
his wife, and sons, Arnold and Inmon of Knoxville, Ervin of Oneida, Bill of
Medford, Oregon and Gene of Muncie, Indiana; daughters, Dorothy Sharp of
Muncie, Indiana and Kelly Rosenmyer of Frenchtown, New Jersey; 9
grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, May Felts of Sand Gap,
Kentucky and Laura Pierce of Kewanee, Illinois; and a host of other
relatives and friends. We feel our loss is heaven's gain.
Hall, Hubert Benny-19, of Oneida, died Thursday, November 14,
following open heart surgery at the U-T Hospital in Knoxville. Young Hall,
who had been in ill health all his life, survived the open heart operation
Thursday morning at 8:00, but internal bleeding set in and death came at
approximately 5:20 p.m. The 19-year-old youth also underwent surgery four
years ago at the University Hospital. A member of the Paint Rock Baptist
Church, he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hall; 2 brothers,
Tommy and Ricky of Oneida; 4 sisters, Mrs. Janice Bates of Oneida, Mrs.
Shelia Buttram of Oneida, Terecia and Sharon Hall of Oneida; grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Duncan of Oneida. Funeral services were conducted 2
p.m. Sunday, November 17, 1963 from the Paint Rock Baptist Church with the
Revs. Vaughn Burress, James Terry and J.C. Reynolds officiating. Interment
followed in Baldy's Knob Cemetery.
Terry, Clifford-46, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 1964 at the
Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, after a lingering illness. He
was a lifelong resident of Scott County and a member of the Paint Rock
Baptist Church. Survivors: wife, Nora Phillips Terry; 2 sons, Arvil Lee
Terry, Danny Clifford Terry both of Oneida; 4 daughters, Mrs. Junior Wright,
Nancy Belle Terry, Regina Lynn Terry, Lettie Darlene Terry all of Oneida; 1
step daughter, Anna Gale Phillips of Oneida, 4 brothers, Edward Terry of
Cincinnati, James Terry and Junior Terry both of Oneida, Charlie Terry of
Cincinnati; 2 sisters, Mrs. Nancy Earlywine of Covington, Kentucky, Mrs.
Golda Shine of Atwater, California; 6 grandchildren. Pall Bearers were
Harold Cross, Lloyd Cross, Ronald Cross and Carl Phillips. Funeral services
were conducted 1 p.m. Friday, January 24, 1964 from the Paint Rock Baptist
Church with Rev. James Jeffers and Lee Smith officiating. Interment
followed in the Cross Cemetery.
Boyatt, Hettie-Joined the Pine Creek Baptist Church in 1928. She
departed this life in 1964. Pine Creek Baptist Church.
Cross, Manerva Pennington-Wife of H.C. Cross, was born October 27,1878,
departed this life July 21, 1963. She was 84 years old and joined the New
Salem Church about 1897 and lived a faithful Christian life until death. She
was joined in Holy Matrimony to H.C. Cross and to this union was born 9
children, one son preceding her in death. She was true to her husband, to
her children and to God. We feel our earthly loss is Heaven's gain. She
was sadly missed by all who knew her.
Cross, Marion-Was born December 7, 1886 and deceased this life
January 23, 1964 at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 16 days. He joined the
New Salem Baptist Church and was baptized April 16, 1905 and lived a devoted
Christian life until death. He was a clerk of New Salem Baptist Church 55
years and was Deacon of the same church 34 years and 3 months. He leaves to
mourn his passing a loving companion, Lutempa Cross; 3 sons, Luther, Elery
and Bailey; 5 grandchildren and a number of friends and relatives. Our loss
was heaven's gain. No one could have been more faithful. He served 33
years and only missed 4 meetings in that period of time.
Madden, Madolyn Pennington-Wife of Roy E. Madden, and daughter of Rev. Mike
Pennington, was born January 2, 1926 and deceased this life October 2, 1964
at the age of 38 years and 9 months. She joined New Salem Church and was
baptized by Rev. Henry Sharp the 3rd Sunday in May, 1937 and lived a devoted
Christian life until death. She leaves to mourn her passing a father,
step-mother, husband and two children, two sisters, one brother and a host
of friends and relatives. We feel our loss is her gain in Glory
and that she was carried by God's angel of death to paradise. Her body was
laid to rest in Sandlin Cemetery in Grayhawk, Kentucky.
Chambers, Clifford-Was born November 16, 1916 and deceased this
life February 27, 1964 at the age of 47 years, 3 months and 11 days. He was
married to Rebecca Harness and to this union was born 4 children. He leaves
to mourn his absence his wife, Rebecca Chambers; 2 sons, Oval and Clois; 2
daughters, Ruby Jean and Linda Kay all of Huntsville; 1 brother, Orval
Chambers of Huntsville; 3 sisters, Goldia Williams, Margaret Crowley of
Huntsville and Tildia Watson of Glendale, Oregon and a host of friends and
relatives. He professed a hope in Christ and joined the Buffalo Baptist
Church July 1948 and remained a member until death. He was a devoted
husband and father and was loved by all who knew him. We feel our loss is
his eternal gain in heaven
Blevins, Louisa-91, passed away Thursday, July 2, 1964 at her home
in Robbins after an illness of one year. She was a lifelong resident of
Scott County and a member of the Black Creek Baptist Church. She is
survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Ella Mae York of Robbins and Mrs. Ida Hamby of
New River, Tennessee; 1 brother, Riley Lackey of Robbins; 4 step-sons, Rev.
Roy Blevins of Oneida, Rev. Maynard Blevins, Revelo, Kentucky, Claude
Blevins, Armathwaite, Tennessee and Pharoah Blevins of Stockton, California.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, July 4, 1964, from the
Black Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Virgil Cecil officiating. Interment
followed in the Black Creek Cemetery.
