York, Mrs. Elsie-Widow of the late Alvis York, died at Norma February 13,
following an extended illness. She was 89 years of age. She was a member
of Buffalo Baptists Church of Winona, a splendid woman, and had a large
number of friends. Survivors include one son, W. A. York of Norma; one
daughters, Mrs. Samuel Rumsill of New Hampshire; one sister, Melvin Wood of
Caryville, Tenn.; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. Funeral was at
Norma with Rev. L. M. Jeffers officiating. Interment in the Crowley
Cemetery.
Lawson, Mrs. Julia Sharp-Wife of Bill Lawson of Elk Valley,
Tenn., age 71 years, died at 3:00 a.m. Saturday morning September 19 at Dr's
Hospital in LaFollette. Survivors left to mourn her death are two sisters,
Millie Ann Sharp, Mrs. Alice Hatmaker; one brother, Archie Sharp and five
step-children; three daughters and two sons; also many relatives and
friends. She lived a faithful Christian life. Oftimes she spoke and told
her friends of her future hope and a blessed home beyond this vale of tears.
Sexton, Sister Artha-Born October 4, 1896 and died on January 8,
1953. The death Angel called her home to be with Jesus. She joined the
Paint Rock Baptist Church May 10, 1910 and lived a faithful Christian life
until death. Her seat is vacant in the Church, but not in the heart's of
her many friends and loved ones. She leaves to mourn her absence, a mother,
Mrs. Emily Sexton; four brothers, Everett, Arlin, Ezra and Elmer Sexton; two
sisters, Mrs. Schofield Sexton and Mrs. Haywood Sexton all of Oneida and a
host of friends and relatives. We feel our loss is her eternal gain in
glory.
Gibson, Sister Dora Lawson-Wife of Delus Gibson, was born March
17, 1911 and was baptized in the Bull Creek Church October 7, 1923. She was
a faithful member of the church for over 29 years or until God sent the
black angel to call her away on June 6, 1953. She lived seven days alike.
She was always ready to give her children advice on how to live. Many times
we have heard her prayers to the Lord in her bed for God to spare her
children until they made their souls ready to meet God in peace. She leaves
8 daughters and 2 sons to mourn her absence. The daughters are; Etta Mae
Harness, Georgia Harness, Donsil Lee Smith, all of whom married at home are
Tillia, Flovena, Irena, Gelena, Shuryl Kay; the sons, Albert and Willie
Dean. She also leaves two sisters, Viola Harness, Roena Mason and 2
brothers, Millard and Mack Lawson. She also leaves many friends and
relatives to mourn her absence. Mother is gone to be with Jesus although we
hate to see her go, but we can prepare to meet her where there will be no
sad partings and no good byes. But our loss is Gods eternal gain in glory.
Waters, Henry-Born April 1, 1892, age 61 years, 8 months and 13
days. Deceased September 13, 1953. He was reunited in marriage to Lilly
Jane Troxel, October 4, 1919 and to his happy union was born 4 boys and five
girls; Disie Rayson, Muncie, Ind., Trivie Vaughn, Blue Herons, Elaney
Gregory, Blue Heron, Hattie Waters, Stearns, Leonard Waters, Cincinnati,
Ohio, Curtis Waters, in service, Dillard Waters, in service, Glenford Waters
Stearns. 15 grandchildren. He united with the Baptist church at the Rock
Creek Church, and united with the Baptist Church at Beech Grove by letter
and was a deacon and lived a faithful member until death. Survived by his
wife and 9 children and a host
of friends to mourn his passing. We feel our loss is his eternal gain in
glory.
Douglas, Howard-Was born September 10, 1909. Son of James M. and Margarette
Douglas, died June 24, 1953 in the St. Mary's Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio
after being injured by a Greyhound Bus on April 18th, 1953. Age 43 years, 9
months and 14 days. He professed a hope in Christ and joined the Mount Zion
Baptist Church in August 1947. He was laid to rest in the Spring Grove
National Cemetery in Cincinnati June 26, 1953. He leaves his wife, his aged
mother, Margaret Douglas; also 3 sisters, Ella, Ethel and
Eva; 3 brothers, J. G., T. R., L. M. Douglas. We feel our loss is His gain.
Beech Grove Church.
Goodman, Sister Sallie-Was born October 1, 1875, and departed
this life October 16, 1952. She accepted Christ as her Savior and
united with the Cherry Fork Church by baptism July 1893 and lived a devoted
Christian life until death. She was united in marriage to Jesse Goodman in
1902 and to this union was born 7 children, 4 sons and 3 daughters, 2 sons
and 2 daughters preceded her in death. She leaves an aged husband, 2 sons
and 1 daughter, 1 brother; 2 sisters and a host of other relatives and
friends to mourn her absence. We feel our loss is her eternal gain in
glory.
Lackey, Rosa-Was born June 27, 1875, departed this life July 14,
1952. She professed a hope in Christ August 30, 1932 and joined the Honey
Creek Church and remained until death. She leaves to mourn her absence; one
daughters, Mrs. Frona Duncan; 14 grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren
and a host of friends to mourn her absence.
Draughn, Mrs. Effie-Born April 11, 1881, departed this life
January 16, 1953, age 72 years. She was married to John Draughn 55 years.
To this union was born 10 children, 9 lived to be grown, one son, U.S.
Draughn preceded her in death. She leaves 8 children, 5 girls and 3 boys;
45 grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn our loss. She professed a
hope in Christ and joined the Honey Creek Church about 18 years ago and
there remained until death.
Chambers, Florence Douglas-Was born January 28, 1901, died March 25, 1953,
age 52 years, 1 month and 25 days. She professed a hope in Christ and
joined the New Salem Baptist Church at an early age. She was the daughter
of James M. and Margarette Douglas. She leaves her aged mother; her
husband, Ted Chambers; 3 sisters; 4 brothers to mourn for her but we
feel she is resting peacefully with Jesus and our loss is her gain. She was
laid to rest in the Fair View Baptist Cemetery at Straight Fork on the 28th
day of March 1953.
