Phillips, Iowa-age 70, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning
at his home near Huntsville following an illness of 2 years. He was a
member of the Paint Rock Baptist Church and had many friends in the
community. He is survived by 3 sons: L. C. and A. V. Phillips of
Huntsville, James Phillips of Molus, Ky.; 2 daughters, Mrs. Ezra Sexton of
Oneida, Mrs. Talt King of Huntsville, 23 grandchildren and several great
grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the Paint Rock Baptist
Church at 10 a.m. Monday with the Revs. L.M. Jeffers and Albert Chitwood
officiating. Burial followed in the Baldy's Knob Cemetery. Arrangement by
West.
Hughett, James-Was born April 2, 1873, and deceased this life
December 25, 1956, at the age of 83 years, 8 months, and 23 days. He was a
son of the late Calvin and Rebecca Phiffer Hughett. Brother Hughett
professed a hope in Christ February 3, 1896 and was baptized into the New
Salem Church February 23, 1896, he remained a faithful member until he moved
his letter to the Baptist Church at Paint Rock. On April 3, 1927 Brother
Hughett was ordained to preach the gospel. The following preachers helped
in the ordination: Rev. R. C. Cecil, Rev. W. A. Cross, Rev. A. J. Phillips
and Rev. Emmett Hughett, his son. On January 31, 1902, he was married to
Delphia Jeffers, and to this union was born 6 children-3 boys and 3 girls:
Emmit who preceded him death, Emory Hughett of Pioneer, Mrs. Floyd Posey,
deceased, Mrs. Frank Phillips of Pioneer, Joe E. Hughett of Detroit,
Michigan and Mrs. Dilmon Byrd of Pioneer. Delphia died July 14, 1923.
Brother Hughett later married Loma Crabtree in January 1937. To this union
was born 6 children-3 boys and 3 girls: Rebecca, Mrs. Jessie Newport,
Lester and Chester, Beverly Kay and Marvin all of Huntsville, Tennessee. He
was a retired school teacher, having taught 32 years in Scott County, and
Attorney for 13 years, a notary public for 30 years, and county surveyor
since 1902. Besides his wife and children, he leaves a brother, John
Hughett of Princeton, Ky., and a sister, Mrs. E. Jeffers of Helenwood, 25
grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and
friends. Brother Hughett lived a devoted Christian life. He pastored
churches for 28 years-serving as many as three churches at once. He rode
over the hills and through the valleys to preach the gospel without charge.
His was a busy life, devoted mostly to serving others. After completing his
final plans he slipped quietly away on Christmas Day, having fought a good
fight, having kept the faith, always cherishing the hope of Heaven, the
Eternal City of God.
King, Rev. George O.-Age 66 years, a resident of Revelo, Ky.,
departed this life July 30, 1957. Rev. King was a loyal employee of Stearns
Coal and Lumber Company for more than 23 years. He joined the First Baptist
Church of Oneida, Tenn., October 29, 1919 and was ordained a Minister of the
Gospel at First Hickory Grove Church of Revelo, Ky., June 12, 1932 and lived
a faithful Christian life until his death. Funeral services were held at
the First Hickory Grove Church Thursday, August 1, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Edd
Simpson and Rev. Loyd King officiating. Burial was in the Lower Hickory
Grove Cemetery. Rev. King is survived by his widow, Mrs. Essie King, eight
children, Mrs. Hobert Jones and Mr. Dean King, Revelo, Ky., Mrs. Earl
Privett and Mrs. Edd Wright, Stearns, Ky., Mr. Eugene King, Bowling Green,
Ky., Mrs. Lawrence Cooper, Clothier, W. Va., Mrs. Harley King, Port
Jefferson, Ohio; Mrs. Floyd Hale, Murry, Utah; one sister, Mrs. Ida Moses,
Whitely City, Ky. Fourteen Grandchildren and 1 great grandson. His passing
was not only a great loss to his family and relatives but also to a host of
friends who knew and admired him. We feel our loss is his eternal gain in
glory.
Taylor, Sister Isabel Hendron-Age 65, departed this life January
2, 1957. She joined Grave Hill Baptist Church, May 10, 1908 and remained a
faithful member until her death. She leaves a number of relatives and
friends who mourn her absence.
Phillips, Brother Dale-Was born October 27th, 1885 and departed
this life March 8th, 1957, age 71 years, 4 months and 11 days. He was
united in marriage with Calanza Newport in 1907 and to this union were born
4 children, 1 son and 3 daughters. His wife and one daughter preceded him
in death. He accepted Christ as his Savior and joined the Cherry Fork
Baptist Church and was baptized in April 1906 and lived a devoted Christian
life until his death. He leaves to mourn his absence, one son; 2 daughters,
one brother and 2 sisters and a host of other relatives and friends. We
feel that our loss is his eternal gain in glory.
Harmon, Mary Lee Owens-Was born May 16, 1922, died October 29, 1956, age 34
years, 5 mo., 13 days. She professed a hope in Christ September 30, 1935
and joined Elk Fork Baptist Church and was baptized by Rev. J. S. Garrett.
She later moved her membership to Stanfill Baptist Church, where she
remained a faithful member until death. She leaves to mourn her absence her
mother, Nannie Norman Owens, one son, Charles Eugene
Owens; two brothers, Herman and Barton Owens, both of Oneida, Tenn.; one
sister, Clara Carson, of Lancing, Tenn., several uncles and aunts, three
nephews, two nieces and a host of friends. We feel she is resting
peacefully with Jesus and our loss is her gain in glory.
Hutson, Rev. James Calvin-Born February 15, 1882, deceased this life
December 30, 1956 at the age of 74 years, 10 months, 15 days. He professed
a hope in Christ at the age of 14 years. He was ordained as a minister in
the year of 1917. He was a faithful servant of the Lord from the time of
his profession until death. He was married to Rachel Lay February 5, 1904.
To this union was born five daughters and one son. Two daughters preceded
him in death. He leaves his wife, 3 daughters, one son to mourn his
absence. We feel sure that our loss is his eternal gain in glory.
